To begin your research and find articles on a particular topic we recommend you use one of the journal databases available in your subject area. Check the subject guide for your Faculty to find databases of use for your area of study. There is a complete A-Z list of databases available which is accessible directly from the Homepage, within the Portal (‘Library & ICT' tab) and in Blackboard Learn (‘Library Services’ option). All journal databases work similarly and there will be a search screen for you to enter keywords or subject terms which describe your topic. Library staff have produced user guides for most of the databases and these will provide basic help in carrying out your searches. You may use the ‘Electronic Journals’ link when you know the name of the journal and you want to find out which database holds that journal to access it.

Remember that your list of database results will include items that are not available in the University of Ulster Library and not all databases will provide access to the full-text of the articles. Please contact your subject librarian on the campus if you need specific help in finding articles for your coursework.
